The single most effective technique to get paid is by creating urgency. In every conversation with a debtor, either by email, phone or in person, aim to get a payment that day. If they cannot pay in full, then ok, however ask for at least something as a show of goodwill. This has a three fold effect:
1. It gets you some money.
2. It shows the customer does want to do the right thing.
3. The customer is now invested in repaying the debt and this can be used further down the track as a reminder that if they don’t finish paying, the money already paid will be wasted. This is very powerful as nobody likes to lose money.
