“Smooth Sam”- Beware of this debtor!

Debtor profile number 892- “Smooth Sam”. Everyone has dealt with a “Smooth Sam” in their time I am sure. Polite, courteous and friendly to a fault, they will charm you into thinking they have the absolute best intentions in the world and are experts at telling you what you want to hear. “Yes I will be paying it this afternoon, you don’t have to worry ok”. This afternoon comes and goes, and sure enough, they haven’t paid. The next day they ring or email you, apologizing profusely and asking for another chance. Because they are just so damn likeable, you agree but they let you down again. “Something came up and I know that is no excuse but I genuinely couldn’t get to the bank, but it is on my to do list today and I will send a remittance once I have paid it, I promise you”. Another chance, another broken promise. “Would you believe it, I paid it to the wrong account number, I am such an idiot aren’t I”. Starting to see the pattern emerging here? “Smooth Sams” are highly calculating, manipulative and will try to charm you into forgetting that they still haven’t actually paid. They are apologetic, will always call you back, and will constantly assure you that their intentions are pure and that they will pay. Folks- don’t be fooled! Money talks- words mean nothing. Getting a “Smooth Sam” to pay requires you to put your foot down, hard. Tell them that enough is enough and to stop wasting your time if by the third promise they still haven’t paid. Or ask them to just pay $100, as a test, to see them put their money where their mouth is. So many debtors think that by staying in regular contact, responding to your emails and calling you back will make you forget that they still haven’t done the one single thing you want them to do- pay. Don’t allow yourself to be conned- remember money talks, and if they are continually breaking promise after promise but still staying in touch- you need to act, and act fast. Cheers and apologies to any non-debtor “Sams” this post may have offended
